Hybrid Music Orchestral Course

4th to 11th of February 2024

Starting the year with a Groove, the first orchestral Course of 2024 will represent a dive into the exciting blend of an orchestra/big band crossover ensemble and an opportunity to learn and tackle the notorious rhythmic challenges of “the Swing”. The orchestral Course’s finale will be a concert performance in Skopje at the Philharmonic Hall, and besides its week-long immersive preparation process, it will include in-depth lectures led by Timothy Redmond focusing on chamber music, additional side concerts and fun extracurriculars.

Timothy Redmond / Conductor

Timothy Redmond conducts opera and concerts throughout Europe and in the US. He is Professor of Conducting at the ‘Guildhall School of Music and Drama’ a regular guest conductor with the London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras co-founder of the international conducting master classes ‘And Other Duties’ and is conductor and co-creator of the Royal Albert Hall’s My Great Orchestral Adventure™ concert series.

Harry Apps / Vocalist

Harry Apps is a professional actor and singer. Recently appearing on the international stage, he played Marius in Les Miserables in the 2019’s UK and Ireland tour, and again at Sondheim Theatre in 2020.

Classical Music Orchestral Course

12th to 20th of February 2024

The Wind Ensemble Course is designed to enhance skills through the Wind Chamber repertoire, applicable in both chamber music and orchestral settings. Additionally, applicants will be introduced to Wind Chamber music that is less frequently performed in a typical university environment. The Course, organized in collaboration with the Liszt Academy in Budapest, will focus on enhancing the students’ Chamber Music skills and is one of the special seminars dedicated to a specific instrument group. The closing concert is being organized in Budapest, at the University Hall on the 29th of February.

Csaba PÁlfi / Clarinet, bass clarinet

Csaba Pálfi graduated with honors from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music Budapest in 2011. He further honed his skills through masterclasses with experts like François Benda and Yehuda Gilad. As a founding member of the Weiner Ensemble he achieved third place at the 2016 Orlando International Chamber Music Competition in the Netherlands.

Since 2016 he has been a member of the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra. Csaba Pálfi earned his DLA degree in 2019 from the Ferenc Liszt Academy and has been an Assistant Professor there since 2015.

Paul Marsovszky / Conductor

Paul Marsovszky, shortly after graduating from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest and the University of Art Berlin became assistant conductor of Ivan Fischer at the Budapest Festival Orchestra, where he worked closely with artists like Sir András Schiff, Miah Persson, Elisabeth Leonskaja and Ilan Volkov.

Film Music & Recording Orchestral Course

4th to 14th of April 2024

The Film Music & Recording Orchestral Course led by renowned film music composer Alastair King offers a unique opportunity for around 30 student musicians to collaborate with five young talented film composers. This course aims to give performers real-world experience of working with film and media composers. Participants will engage in an immersive studio environment learning to produce high-quality music under tight deadlines. Additionally, a three-day Recording workshop conducted by Margarita Kalcheva and Joaquim Badia will enhance the students’ orchestral recording skills and provide insights into music recording production editing and mixing with the FAME’S studio team. A special focus of this workshop is promoting gender equality in music highlighted by recording a piece from a young female composer.

Alastair King / Conductor / Composer

Alastair King is one of the UK’s leading orchestrators and conductors who has orchestrated and conducted over 100 projects in Film, TV and Video games, including ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Shrek’, ‘The Martian’, ‘Downtown Abbey’, ‘Doctor Who’ and many more. He regularly collaborates with some of today’s most prominent media composers. Also, he frequently conducts the Chamber Orchestra of London and has led various other orchestras and choirs, such as the London Symphony Orchestra BBC Concert Orchestra Northern Sinfonia London Session Orchestra Metro Voices BBC Philharmonic the Bach Choir the Choir of the King’s Consort BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales and the Vienna ORTF Orchestra.

Recording Orchestral Course

11th to 17th of May 2024

The Course, organized in collaboration with the Conservatoire of Amsterdam will give performing musicians a real-life experience of collaborating with media composers on bringing original music written for film to life, working in a professional recording studio and understanding the requirements of producing professional level performances under a tight deadline. Five young composers will record their Film music soundtracks for animations movies produced by Netherlands Film academies, with our students led by our professional technical team and Conductor. The Course will provide comprehensive training for musicians in the recording process. This masterclass will emphasize the importance of in-depth knowledge in music theory and techniques. Through a series of engaging activities participating musicians will gain real-life experience in collaborating with media composers.

Kaveh Vares / Composer

Kaveh Vares, next to being a composer, is the Artistic Director of the Composing for Film Master's Program at the ‘Conservatory of Amsterdam’. He teaches sound design and develops courses and workshops about sound and music for young filmmakers in the Netherlands Film Academy.

Joaquim Badia / Conductor

Joaquim Badia continued his musical studies at the Royal College of Music, UK where he held a DS Forbes Award. In 2014 he studied at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) under Denis Pascal mentoring in music composition. After obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Music (First Class Hons) in 2015, he studied for a Master's Degree in Composing for Film TV and Video Games at Berklee College of Music. His music has been performed in most major venues in the UK and Barcelona. He has won several chamber music prizes and composition awards including the BBC Young Composer Award.

Péter Bársony / Violist

Péter Bársony, a violist and professor at Kunstuniversität Graz and Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, is known for his solo, chamber, and orchestral performances worldwide. He collaborates with renowned artists and quartets, including Joshua Bell and the Kodály String Quartet, and participates in major festivals like the Ravinia and Mostly Mozart. A champion of contemporary music, Bársony has premiered works by composers such as György Kurtág and Steve Reich, with many pieces dedicated to him. He's also guest principal violist for top orchestras and offers master classes globally. Awarded the Liszt Ferenc Prize in 2012, Bársony's discography features world premieres and works by Brahms, Haydn, and Ligeti. He made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in 2013.

Carte Blanche Orchestral Course

18th to 23rd of May 2024

The orchestral Course will be led by Diane Louie, leader of the Hip Hop Orchestra for The Harmony Project, an award-winning research-based program that targets at-risk youth in underserved areas of Los Angeles, a program that has been recognized by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities as one of the best youth and humanities programs in the nation. This unique orchestral Course will provide insight into the world of music production for Media, will help prepare students to create and maintain a workflow with trade-typical production elements such as rundown and production schedule and will introduce students to a variety of music industry careers including Music Director, House Band Leader. Students will be able to improve their ability to accompany musical artists, coordinate timed music performances, and communicate effectively in high-stress environments.

Diane Louie / Composer

Diane Louie is American composer/lyricist and classically trained conductor with roots in every corner of the musical globe—from R&B to speed metal from electronica to Broadway. She has worked with some of the most recognized names in the recording industry including Stevie Wonder, Lionel Hampton, Snoop Dogg, Tony Bennett, Dolly Parton, Michael McDonald, Peabo Bryson, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves, Roberta Flack, Bob Dylan, Placido Domingo, Little Richard, Christina Aguilera and Brian Wilson.
