Timeless Traditions: Exploring Gypsy Music from Classics to JAZZ Improvisation
We are thrilled to share the highlights from our program, “Timeless Traditions.” This session brought together young European talents for a unique journey through orchestral classics, modern adaptations, and professional studio recording.
Our participants explored the evolution of gypsy-inspired music across centuries. The repertoire bridged the gap between:
- Orchestral Classics: Iconic works by Liszt, Brahms, Sarasate, and Ravel.
- Contemporary Innovations: Modern adaptations of Django Reinhardt and Federico Nathan, showcasing how tradition meets modern flair.
Professional Development in the Studio
Under professional mentorship, students participated in recording sessions at FAME’S Studio. They gained hands-on experience in:
- Mastering recording techniques and click-track management.
- Developing focus and adaptability in a high-pressure studio environment.
- The art of professional editing and mixing.
We were honoured to host two exceptional mentors who guided our students through this hybrid musical landscape:
- Federico Nathan (Violin): A violin soloist and professor at Berklee College of Music, who led workshops on the art of improvisation and blending classical with popular music.
- Timothy Redmond (Conductor): A renowned conductor from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, who brought his experience and shared it with young musicians.
Lectures and Workshops
The program featured many lectures that opened new dimensions for students. By comparing classical repertoire with jazz and modern genres, participants explored the art of improvisation and innovative orchestral styles. These sessions encouraged creative freedom, culminating in an open “Improvisation Night” where students showcased their new skills in a festive, live performance.
