Hybrid Music Orchestral Course
Libertango – A Tribute to Astor Piazzolla
July 14–21, 2025
Led by violinist and mentor Rusanda Panfili, this course immersed students in the music of Astor Piazzolla, exploring the expressive power and rhythmic complexity of his distinctive Tango Nuevo style.
Through intensive rehearsals and workshops, participants worked on some of Piazzolla’s most celebrated works for string chamber orchestra and solo violin, including Libertango, Oblivion, Escualo, Soledad, and Vuelvo al Sur. A central piece of the program was Estaciones Porteñas, arranged by Leonid Desyatnikov, a work that weaves together elements of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with Piazzolla’s tango language, offering students a rich blend of classical and contemporary expression.
The program combined performance practice with deeper insight into Piazzolla’s musical language, interpretative style, and ensemble interaction in a chamber orchestral setting.
The course concluded with a concert performance by FAME’S Institute students together with Rusanda Panfili at the Ohrid Summer Festival on July 20, 2025.
